Bonds Expand in U.S. Seed Loan Indictments

The U S grand jury raised bonds for several defendants in seed loan cases including Beach A Bruner John Beach Bruner Horace E Deese and W F Wimberly among others with additional counts for Charlie C McArthur and Earl E Hammond and Leo Espy. About 65 people named in 33 indictments will be arraigned March 7 as the investigation continues through the week.

Three Georgia cotton truck drivers were halted by an Alabama license inspector at about 4 a.m. today, and their three loaded trucks were required to purchase Alabama license tags for their vehicles.

Poll Taxes Paid By 1 711 Persons In Houston County

A total of 1711 Houston county residents paid poll taxes this year per tax collector records. Of these, 1348 paid one year and 363 paid for multiple years. More than 4,000 were expected to pay, excluding World War II veterans those over 45 and others exempt.

The Houston County health department administered 18 525 inoculations in 1931. Typhoid accounted for 12 633 shots, diphtheria 5 505, and smallpox 287. An additional 185 injections were of ink and cream.

Negro Woman Bound Over to Grand Jury on Murder Charge

Lizzie George, a Black woman held on a murder charge after shooting her husband, was bound over to the grand jury under a $500 bond in county court. Forty Witnesses Called for Trial of Two Brothers

Geneva February 2 AP Forty witnesses have been summoned for the murder trial of Clyde and Harold Dix. The Dixon brothers are accused of fatally shooting Adolph Crutchfield last November. A special venue of 35 was summoned for the jury. Testimony was expected to wrap by noon with the case going to the jury tonight or Wednesday morning.

Salvation Army aid limited to those resident since January

The Salvation Army advisory board ruled help is limited to families who have lived in Dothan since January 1. Captain V A Tidman said about twenty families moved into the area from the county since Christmas while others, already residing here, seek aid.
