The student studied clothing for health and comfort and completed all required projects winning multiple prizes. She attended the 1931 state short course for club girls at Auburn. In the finals in Montgomery she achieved the highest score, earning Alabama's 4-H health champion for 1931.

Death for Three Robbers Affirmed by Alabama Court

The Alabama Supreme Court affirmed death sentences for three Negro robbers in 1937 cases. Percy Irvin and Robert Strickland of Lowndes county faced execution for robbery and Isaac Milne of Jefferson county for murder during a 1930 attack on Clark and Weaver. A fourth man, Andrew Levery, Birmingham, had his death sentence affirmed on appeal after a second trial for robbing Vincent Virgo’s store in 1929. The executions were set for March 11, potentially marking Alabama’s first quadruple execution since the electric chair replaced the gallows.

WEST PALM BEACH Feb 1 Charity and light cleaning work will be withheld from those who refused job offers, says Mrs Nelie F. Smith head of the Palm Beach county welfare department. Only six Negroes responded to cane-cutting proffers by Southern Sugar Co despite estimates of about 3,000 unemployed able-bodied Negro men in the county. Lot cleaning work will be reserved for needy white men, and no charity is expected by Negroes who refused steady work for months.

Graceville Woman Hurt In Car Crash

Graceville resident Mrs. Fred Sawyer is in a local hospital with severe head injuries from a Friday automobile wreck four miles east of here on the Jacksonville highway. Her husband, driving, was slightly injured. A second car carried two women traveling from Lake City to Pensacola. the driver lost control as they met another vehicle.
