Fragmentary OCR text from a historical newspaper page mentions publishers and obituaries with garbled phrases. It references misstatements and notices about publicaties of laws, and lists several street corners and biographical topics, all presented in a disrupted form.
December 16 1945 editorial notes optimism at Moscow talks among Big Three on atomic energy control. It cites Dr James B Conant accompanying Byrnes and suggests a workable system could remove a major wartime threat. Also comments on Ickes back in the news and urges restraint in postwar political battles while addressing wartime clothing shortages faced by returning veterans and families.
The piece criticizes President Truman's priority order on building materials aimed at easing housing needs. It argues allocating 50 percent to housing creates a ceiling on new construction, risking a price floor and undermining postwar stability.
A letter or editorial argues for government stimulus to boost home construction and materials output. It suggests regulating programs to aid all groups, ensure sufficient supply, and address manpower, with free enterprise providing six new home types at varied prices once production and labor issues are tackled.
Washington column uncovers pre Pearl Harbor deal masking a DC-4 sale to Japan via Japan Airways Ltd. Douglas Aircraft backed by U.S. Army approval, secrecy and export licensing. Letter from Nakajima official applauds covert handling as ties with Hap Arnold’s forces orbit controversy.
C M Stanley argues the South faces a chronic balance of trade deficit with the North. He urges developing regional industries using cotton, petroleum, peanuts, tobacco processing, and tourism, plus expanding southern research and manufacturing to reduce reliance on northern goods and retain wealth locally. The piece labels this shift essential for a healthy southern economy.
A fragmented listing shows a busy weekly radio schedule with numerous programs across AP News, MBS, and local stations. Entries include concerts, church services, devotions, orchestra broadcasts, and musical variety shows featuring artists like Henry, Tatum, Maxwell, and Lopez, with mornings, afternoons, and late-evening time slots.
A personal reminiscence recalls Christmas scenes with a child’s joy, a phonograph, and gifts. The author urges readers to give freely, cherish family happiness, and share abundance after a cold spell signals hog killing weather.
The Legion plans a Christmas drive to aid underprivileged children with fruit and presents. Funds are being collected from Legion members and the port adjutant noted only members would contribute. Final plans call for distribution at the Legion meeting Thursday night. The County Welfare office will provide names and addresses of children who cannot afford visits from Santa this year.
Cecil E. Shirley of Dothan has been promoted to Captain at the Field Artillery Training Center. The promotion was announced today at the headquarters. Shirley’s new rank follows service with the Saty Field Artillery and Fort Oakis units.
