Ireland's wartime growth shifts Dublin's tourist lure

World Traveler Dewitt Mackenzie notes a transformed Ireland where poverty has eased since war years. He observes Dublin becoming a hub for British and American visitors drawn by food variety and cheaper liquor, while coal remains scarce and peat dominates energy use. The piece cites agricultural reforms under Eamon De Valera, a stronger wartime economy, rising national income from about 690 million to 1 billion dollars, and a national debt near 164 million. It also mentions lingering postwar hopes and a public meeting in Montgomery with W Hayden Brook.
