Montgomery Ala Dec 11 API Frank M Dixon announced in Montgom ery last night that he would qualify with the Secretary of State Monday as a candidate for Governor of Alabama in the Democratic primary next year. Dixon, a World War veteran, outlined his platform including beer taxes funding schools and state control of liquor in counties by popular vote.

Miss Ola Mae Avant, 15, of Chipley Florida, died at local hospital early today from meningitis after being brought in last night. She is survived by her parents Mr and Mrs M A Avant, two sisters Mrs Pearna Lee Quattlebaum, and brothers Aviis and Charlee Avant, all of Chipley. Funeral set for tomorrow morning at the home with Buck.
Houston county reports an increase of 7646 bales in cotton ginnings this year over the previous period. Figures released by Welter F. Oakley, special agent for the U S Department of Commerce, show 18631 bales ginned before December 1 1992 compared with 25277 for the same period this year.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Bey Springs Church for Jim E Roberson 65 who died at his home on Dothan Route Saturday night. He is survived by his widow two sons Clifford and two daughters Maybell Roberson and Mrs Teltey. Dowling Rhodes funeral home had charge of arrangements.
