Workers Earning Under 1.05 Per Hour Face Tough Times
Washington AP reports government figures show a family of three needs at least 1.05 dollars an hour for 40 hours weekly to cover living costs this year. In 1944, 25 percent of city families with two or more people earned less than 1,850 dollars net, often going into debt to stay afloat. The Bureau notes costs rose two percent since last year, and many families still bought war bonds despite tight finances. Nearly half of urban families earned under 2,700 dollars in 1944, with about one-fifth under 1,500 dollars.
