Fort Sill public relations office announces that Captain Hutchison, a graduate of Alabama Polytechnic Institute, holds the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for campaigns in France Belgium and Germany where he commanded a battery in the 54th Armored Field Artillery battalion. He attended the Battery Officers course at Fort Sill from July to September 1941.
Funeral services for Clayton A Hatcher sixty two of Phenix City were held this morning at Pleasant Plain Church with Rev Edward Colbouth officiating. Burial followed at Pilgrim East Cemetery. Johnson Wilkerson Funeral Home in charge. Surviving are his wife Vera Lee Hatcher and three brothers C C Hatcher D R and J A Hatcher of Columbia Route Two.

Notice is given that under an order from the Probate Court of Houston County Alabama executor Robert Finch will sell at public auction on a designated Saturday the following real estate: a lot in Dothan Alabama starting at the south line of Orth Street near Powell Street and extending 30 feet east then south to the railroad right of way, west 40 feet along the right of way, and north back to the starting point. The property is described as the east 30 feet of a lot conveyed by A J Cos and wife by deed June 21 19th. The sale is in accordance with the decedent Thomas J Finch estate. The notice is dated November and signed by ROBERT FINCH administrator of the estate.
In Chicago a nude body of stenographer Frances Brown, discharged from Waves, was found in a Pine Crest Hotel bathroom with a 12 inch bread knife through her neck. A roommate discovered the scene. police note a strangled head, blood, and a peculiar message on the wall. The killer’s note reads I cannot control myself.

Listed for today are Edward Phillips for second degree murder attempt, Frances Sufford for prohibition violation appeal, Osear H Tolar for DWI appeal, Joe Lee Cochran assault and battery, Elbert Spivey assault to murder, Jayde Iverson assault and battery, Ley Jones second degree burglary, Harry Dillard DWI appeal, Johnnie Wogan assault and battery, Wod Halue Mae Finn Tatton prohibition appeal. The calendar extends through Friday.
C Powell, a youth near Sainison, posted 300 bond after pleading county in federal court to internal revenue law violations. Powell was arrested over the weekend by Alabama Beverage Control Board agents Mo A Parker and W. P Boseman. The case was transferred to federal court with authorities reporting the confiscation of approximately one and a half gallons of whiskey at arrest.
Funeral services for Andrew J. Granger age 73 of Cottonwood will be at 11 a m Tuesday at New Harmony Church with Rev. George W Nobles and Rev Dan Guy officiating. Burial follows at New Harmony Church with Ward Wilson in charge. A longtime Houston County farmer and Free Will Baptist Church member he is survived by his wife three daughters two sons two sisters a brother and seven grandchildren. Active pallbearers named.

Major Joseph R. Pickett commanded three army recruiters on a regional tour to enlist new soldiers. First Lieutenant Harry A. Donovan M-Sgt Grady Goff and Sgt Bruno W. Shawtis would visit Geneva Elbat Enterprise Andalusia Opp Greenville and Laverne this week, providing transport from their homes to the induction center for enlistees.

Columbia, led by Mayor E. Wakefield, filed a formal application with the Surplus Property Administration in Washington to obtain one of Napier Field's auxiliary bases at no cost. The field is in the township's business section and regarded by aviation authorities as a strong landing strip. The site includes a blacktop runway and caretaker's building, with paving of the Columbia Headland highway planned next year to improve access.
