Gambler Held After Killing Man in Crap Game
James Davis a professional gambler is jailed in Birmingham on a holding charge as coroner investigates the slaying of A. M. Searcy a prominent estate office secretary. Davis admitted firing five shots during an apparent attempted hold up at a downtown hotel dice game in which Searcy reportedly drew a revolver and took money from the table. Searcy died minutes after being shot through the left side while en route to a hospital. Davis said he chased the suspect up a fire escape after taking a gun from his overcoat and surrendered after the shooting. Several witnesses testified they were at the six hour long dice game including John L. Tegue M. C. Berk Nathan Permutt and E. E. Ivey.
