The article reports a revised budget plan announced earlier this month to balance the budget either this year or next, with Rep. Clarence Brown accusing new presidential estimates of being imaginative. President Truman defends the program, calling critics obfuscation and a Republican attempt to mislead. Senator Briones criticizes the plan as boom and bust, urging a sharp presidential knife rather than a sharper tongue. Democrats allege cancellation of $300,800,000 for river and harbor work and food control, risking floods and disasters amid vast, unnecessary expenditures.
