Equalized Funds to Be Asked for Alabama Schools
Alabama State Superintendent A R Meadows announced plans to urge the state school board to redraw funding to equalize educational opportunities across counties. He spoke at a meeting with city and county superintendents and said the teacher unit system frozen since 1940-41 would be removed as a basis for allotments. Schools in defense areas relying on federal aid will lose about half their funds this year and require state supplementation. Superintendents may propose recommendations to the state board, which has the final authority.
