British Delay Transatlantic Mail Test Flights Pending Negotiations
British government tests for inaugurating a North Atlantic air mail service will begin in 1936 with a two engined mail composite plane. Regular service may follow within three years as negotiations continue between the government and Imperial Airways. The craft will be a small two seater, designed for heavy wing loading and require a larger aircraft for passenger service. Imperial Airways, backed by government support, is favored to operate the initial service. Sir Philip Cunliffe-Lister noted in Parliament that the government is pursuing talks, controlling key stations along routes via Newfoundland and Bermuda.
