Invitation Extended By Napier Field To Wiregrass Citizens

Napier Field invites residents of Dothan and the Wiregrass to a Sunday parade at 405 m on the spacus parade grounds left of the runway. Cadets from upper and lower classes will march in precision formation under Chief Warrant Officer John R. Charlesworth with local dignitaries observing. An RAF exhibit of AT-6 and F-40 aircraft, chemical warfare gear, and a vehicle parking area will be on site for visitors viewing from autos. Colonel Daly notes strong local turnout signals support for cadet progress and training. SGT. Adams Returns. James C. Adams, eight months overseas in Italy, expected to arrive at Camp Shelby, Miss., around August 10 for a home visit with his parents.

Napier Field civilian recruitment drive seeks help

Divorcee testifies gun firing followed quarrel in Dothan

The article recounts a divorcee stating she fired at Henderson to frighten him after he advanced on her during a disputed meeting. Henderson had arranged a date the night before but did not appear. Funeral services for Henderson were held at New Home near Elba with burial in the church cemetery. He was born in Samson, moved to Dotham in 1939, and belonged to the Christian Church at Enterprise. Sailor Tweed Reunited With Family After Guam Ordeal

Promoted from radio first class aboard Tweed returned to the United States and reunited in San Diego with wife Mary Francis Tweed II and sons Ronald and Robert. He spent two years evading Japanese on Guam, lived on rainwater, endured captivity, and was rescued by a combatant ship off Guam ten days before the Allied landings.

Airplane cutback in war programs faces worker shortages

Number 12 raids on Japanese targets credited. The WPB staff director Arthur H. Bunker says the airplane cutback, spanning a year, cannot reduce urgent war job needs. An estimated 200,000 workers are required by fall. He notes overall Army production must rise substantially this year, with the air plane decrease only one third of the total increase.

Lions Club Hears Whit King Speak

Whit King former clerk for Selective Service Board Number One spoke at the Dothan Lions noon meeting on selective service. He traced the draft system from its origins to its current use amid a crisis and urged Lions to assist veterans reintegration with a welcoming approach. Also present were Lions Collins Connor and H H Ader who discussed club matters and convention reports. The group planned a FBI sponsored meeting at the Houston County Courthouse featuring two movies and Judge Livingston on juvenile delinquency.

Peanuts as a Food Highlighted at Club Demonstration

Fifteen Home Demonstration Club members from eleven Houston County clubs attended a leaders training session at the Home Demonstration Agent's office. Miss Marie Amos, extension nutritionist, argued peanuts should be part of meals not a between meal filler and noted their high quality protein calcium iron and phosphorus. She offered uses for peanuts and peanut butter in sandwiches salads and with cereals while preparing three dishes including peanut apple cake and mock veal cutlets.
