County Jury Board Clerical Workers To Be Discharged
In Birmingham on August 11 AP reports John F Frye president of the Jefferson county jury act announced the clerical staff of the board will be discharged and the office closed for about 18 months after the jury box is refilled on September 1. The move aims to save about 5400 annually plus around 20000 from subpoenas served by registered mail under a new state law. After refilling the jury box in September the process will not be closed for two years and will require about 40000 names compared with 30000 to 35000 now, yet the jury board will keep functioning as before.
