Sunday School Social at Home of Mrs Howard

The Philathea Sunday School of Lafayette Street Methodist Church held its monthly social last evening at Mrs. R L Howards home with Mrs. R P Sanders as associate hostess. Mrs C W Carr gave the devotional, games and entertainment were led by Mrs L W Johnson and Mrs R P Sanders, and a salad course was served to the listed members. The Grimes Home Demonstration Club met in April at Mrs Tilman Adkins home with reports on community activities and a sewing short cut demonstration by Mrs Adkins. Eighteen members attended. Mr and Mrs Billy Mullen and daughter Mary Louise will visit relatives in Columbiana, with Mrs Mullen and Mary Louise staying longer. Mrs Jean C Boltze and daughter Linda of Tampa, Fla are visiting in Dothan with Mrs Boltzes parents. Mrs T A Tice, Mrs J A Buckhart, and Mrs Eunice Murrell were also noted.

Huntingdon Art Exhibit by Kappa Pi Students

Huntingdon College's Kappa Pi chapter opens a student art show in the Hut on Wednesday April 30. Works from all art classes will hang through May 10 with public viewing invited. Committee members include Sally Wedekind, Virginia Kilpatrick, Lucy Armistead, Jeanne Jones, and Betty Baugh. Publicity led by Sarah McGee and Chic Hall. program chair Martha Alderson.

Eastern Star Group At Marianna Notes 25th Anniversary

Members of the local chapter of Eastern Star and friends marked the 25th anniversary of the chapter with a history read by Joyce Lambe and silver gifts to past patrons and matrons. The event included a reception and remarks by chapter officers, with additional honors for gifts from the Binuntstown group. A Memorial Day UDC program on WAGF featured music and a talk by Willam H. Bennett. Joseph and Frances Jolly and others were noted for weekend visits and Washington, DC travel.

Business Women’s Club Entertained By Miss Story

Miss Lilla Story hosted the Business and Professional Women’s Club with Miss Gladys Holland as cohost. Colorful spring flowers decorated the home. The annual State convention is set for Huntsville May 16 and 17. Bingo winner was Mrs. Mary Yee Windsor. Attendees included Mrs. Mary J. Hazen, Mrs. J.D. Picher, Miss Susie Young, and many others from local and Chattanooga groups.

The Woman's Auxiliary of the VFW met at the Veterans Club in Napier Field with Mrs. Bers Walker presiding. Officers reported finances and introduced the new treasurer Mrs. Gladys Mills, and committees were named for the opening event on April 30 at the Veterans Club.

A district gathering of the Women's Society of Christian Service met Tuesday at Lafayette Street Methodist Church with delegates from twenty six of forty one district histories. Mrs Benson presided assisted by Mrs Meloeod. Dr EA Childs led devotion. Principal speaker Mrs F B Godfrey spoke on Sights and Insights and Her Calling to Fulfill. Lunch was served by Lafayette Street society. Next meeting set for Clayton. Mose Smith Jr to return to Atlanta after visit in Dothan, Marion, and Panama City.

Bainbridge Pastor To Address Youth

The Rev. Charlie Bishop of Second Baptist Church Bainbridge will speak at the Youth For Christ meeting Saturday at 7 30 p m at the Recreation Center. Special musical numbers will come from Ashford Cottonwood and Dothan groups and four Dothan high senior boys bound for ministry study will participate. All denominations are invited to attend.
