The Franklin society met April 3 with a mock trial where Mise Whilie Pearl Carter sued John Hilson for two hundred cabbage plants and two rows of onions. The verdict favored the plaintiff. Also announced were future debaters Fay Helms and Jerry Newton and readers Janie Palmer and Lutrelle McLemray. Sheriff Anwright Impeachment Probe Sparks Alabama Turmoil

In April at Montgomery rumors say Sheriff Anwright faces impeachment for failing to shield prisoner Aberden Johnson from a Union Springs lynching. Johnson, charged with brutal assault, was captured by Sheriff Teal and a posse near Barbour and Bullock counties. he was lynched by a small mob after officials sought troops from Governor O Neal. The governor reportedly received evidence to justify impeachment, which would be brought before the Alabama Supreme Court, following a precedent set by Sheriff Frank Casalas of Mobile County for dereliction of duty.
