Lee County tax bills rise amid school district increases
About 30 residents contacted Lee County Treasurer Sharon Thompson on Tuesday seeking reasons for higher tax bills. In Dixon the rate rose 7.4 percent, 67 cents per $100, largely due to Dixon Public Schools. Amboy saw a 12.08 percent increase, 70 cents per $100, with Amboy School District 272 receiving 63 cents. Harmon and Sublette are affected through District 272. A home valued at 60,000 now costs about 188 more in Dixon and 176 more in Amboy. Thompson advised comparing with last year’s bill. State aid not rising, bonds for Dixon and roof work for Amboy drive increases.
