Lightner motion dismissed in Illinois eminent domain fight
Lee County Associate Circuit Judge John Payne dismissed a motion by the Illinois Department of Transportation seeking contempt of court for Dixon auto dealer John Lightner over vacating 505 Chicago Ave. The state seized the property in February for U S Route 52 and III Route 38 improvements, received title April 19, and gave Lightner 30 days to vacate. A May 19 contempt hearing was postponed, with May 31 set for refiled action. August 15 was dated for a jury trial on additional compensation beyond the initial $27,600 deposit, while Lightner plans to relocate to a corner site at Fourth Avenue and North Galena Avenue after considering six properties.
