Rain Man Oscar tribute frames Cinderella story for Hoffman
Dustin Hoffman, accepting his best actor Oscar for Rain Man, calls the film a Cinderella story after a rocky path to the screen. He thanks autistic individuals and families, dedicates the award to his hospitalized father, and praises co star Tom Cruise while noting his own preparation. Hoffman recalls the project’s near cancellation and credits research at UCLA Medical Center for the character Raymond Babbitt.
