Amboy council rejects local bid for Deans Foods site

Amboy City Council, by a 4-3 vote, accepted the top bid from a St. Charles area businessman to purchase the old Deans Foods building, rejecting Amboy resident Doug Foster whose bid aimed to start a microwave popcorn business. Foster argued his plan would employ more people, but a three-fourths vote may be required to sell real estate, prompting possible reversal or a special meeting. The winner plans a plating business with 20 to 30 employees, while Foster’s projection could reach 37 workers initially.
