Fire chief Voss dies after nearly 40 years service
Dixon Rural Fire Chief Ed Voss, 69, died Sunday after a brief illness. A 1950 recruit, he rose to chief in 1969 and led EMT training in 1974 and helped establish 911 service in Lee County. Firefighters praised his dedication as the board tasked Assistant Chief Donoho to serve as acting chief until a new appointment.

LaGow Cleared by Jury in Drug Case After Six-Hour Deliberation
LaGow, 27, of Paw Paw, was found not guilty by a Lee County Circuit Court jury after more than six hours of deliberation. He admitted delivering cocaine to undercover Illinois State Police agents in 1987 under an informant’s direction and contested the informant’s reliability, while prosecutors questioned the informant’s absence from court. LaGow had been jailed since last May's multi-county drug raid.
