Bridge hand reveals 3NT contract on 23 June 1984
In a bridge deal with vulnerable players, South opens a pass sequence leading to 3NT after passes from North and East. The final contract is 3NT by South with all four players contributing in the play, reflecting a standard technique puzzle from the era.
Cold logic and a bridge contract lesson
In a bridge hand South faced a decision after North opened two clubs. Declarer misread by playing spades and clubs without recognizing a singleton club ace. Correct play would have forced East to show distribution, allowing South to unblock the club jack and later run five club tricks for the contract. James Jacoby’s books Jacoby on Bridge and Jacoby on Card Games are now available from Pharos Books 1989.
