Lightner bid to cut median at Fourth and Galena rejected
IDOT District Engineer William Ost rejected John Lightner’s request for a medium cut near the northwest corner of Fourth Avenue and North Galena Avenue to restart his auto business after eminent domain seizure of 505 Chicago Ave for US Route 38. Ost said the cut risks rear end crashes and merging difficulties. Lightner calls the decision outrageous and notes other median cuts exist nearby in the area.

Alfalfa weevils threaten area hay crops
The Telegraph reports alfalfa weevils are a major threat to area hay as warmer weather and mild winter boost populations. Extension adviser Jim Morrison notes a heavy Lee County infestation with new growth vulnerable about three days after cutting. Field checks within two days and appropriate insecticides can curb damage. in Ogle County nearly all alfalfa acres are affected this year.

Petunia Festival 25th Anniversary Program Released

Amboy adopts city prosecution of its own codes
Amboy voters will see cost savings as the city council approved revising traffic and misdemeanor codes to allow local prosecution. Police Chief Gary Schultz said the move will cut transportation and court costs, boost fines kept by Amboy, and free squad cars from transporting offenders.
