Four farms in the Byron area will be featured for Ogle County’s 17th Annual Farm Visit Day. Hosts include Adams beef farm, Adams swine operation, Kim Burkhart’s Arthur Mintz sheep farm, and Wendell Anderson dairy farm. Visitors can tour June 29 from 1 to 5 p.m. Maps are available through the Extension Service.
Lee County Board Chairman Charles Dunphy will recommend three members for the Lee County Board of Review at the June 20 meeting. Ray Harrison of Amboy is eyed for a two year term, with Dunphy seeking reappointment for a one year term, and David Higgs of Dixon for a one year term. Foster explains the panel reviews property valuations to resolve taxpayer concerns and ensure fair treatment through the assessors and board of review.
Rochelle Elementary School District 231 will begin removal at Tilton and Lincoln elementary schools this summer after a $97 630 bid from Holian Asbestos Removal Company was accepted. Other bids ranged up to $289 497. Architect says costs have doubled from a year ago. total project cost nears $130 000 with added fees for air quality inspection. At Tilton the boiler room and piping will be cleared of asbestos while Lincoln will remove materials from stairwells. Migrant program will be relocated to the west end of Tilton to avoid the work area.
