A two vehicle crash on Illinois Route 64 near Rochelle West of Kings killed Byron resident Roger D. Stroud 40. Stroud, thrown from the westbound car, died at Rochelle Community Hospital. The other driver Henry E Holze 35 Stillman Valley was listed in critical condition after air transport to Rockford Memorial Hospital. An arrest warrant is pending from the Ogle County State's Attorney.
The unemployment rate slipped to 5.2 percent in May while nonfarm payrolls rose only 101,000, the smallest gain in over three years. April’s figure was revised from 117,000 to 206,000.
