In Waterloo Iowa and Chicago tense moments followed a United Airlines DC-10 crash that killed 111 and injured many. Norristown man Brent Bealer died of war injuries while survivors were treated at St Luke's and Marian Health Center as rescue teams searched for the engine fan section. Dixon records first bank robbery in city history
Police search for a white male in his 20s to 30s who robbed First Bank on the Dixon south side drive up at about 10 50 am Friday. He threatened a Molotov attack, fled with an undetermined amount of cash, and left a Hardee’s bag. Investigators urge lobby witnesses from Thursday 4 pm to Friday 10 50 am to contact the Dixon Police Department.

Swimmer ends 85 mile Jersey swim with improved water
Marathon swimmer Skip Storch finished his weeklong 85 mile swim from Liberty Island to Atlantic City praising markedly improved water quality. He dodged plastic bags and jellyfish bites, saying he could taste the cleaner water and felt safer along the Jersey shore.

Illinois fisherman drowns in Rock River near Oregon dam
An Elgin area man Thongsa Manirat aged 36 drowned after an overnight fishing trip with a church group. He was found in about 17 feet of water near the dam in Oregon at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Rescue workers, aided by multiple fire departments, searched from midnight until daybreak and continued into the morning. The group member who saw possible cries could not confirm due to the river’s roar. Authorities warn the dam area holds hidden deep holes that create a dangerous mix with shallow spots.
