Saunders seeks sentence reduction in 1983 murder case
Lee County Circuit Court Judge Thomas Hornsby set January 23 for a hearing on Alban Saunders Junior’s motion to reduce his 40 year murder sentence. Saunders was convicted on November 2, 1983 for the strangulation death of Stuart Kelly Young of Oregon, killed October 16, 1981 in Saunders’ apartment. Young’s body was dumped in Castle Rock State Park and found November 8. Letters from a Catholic priest and deacon accompanied Saunders’ petition urging release. The case also notes other multi murder convicts receiving shorter sentences. The hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m.

Other incidents involve Bass and Perry at Brinton Avenue, a deer strike injuring none, Weber hitting a cement wall, Van Oosten colliding with Braida at a red light, Carrington obstructed windshield, Benson minor injuries, and Pohl's pickup sliding into a ditch after hitting an icy spot. No tickets issued in several cases.
