Winter Storm Pummels Central United States
A massive storm swept across the midsection and into the East and South bringing heavy snow from Arkansas to Indiana and rain through the Carolinas and into Kentucky. Illinois and Missouri suffered the heaviest snowfall with several inches reported. Dayton and Indianapolis recorded sharp temperature drops and new ground cover within hours. Tornadoes touched down in Arkansas, Tennessee and Mississippi, but no major damage was reported.

Nadine Stein 65 died unexpectedly at Resurrection Hospital Chicago after being chosen by Dixon City Council to fill an unexpired KSB Hospital Board term. She led Lee County Red Cross from 1962 to 1985 expanding volunteers and starting the bloodmobile. Survivors include son Jeffrey. husband Vernon preceded her in death. Her obituary appears on page 12.
