State official urges parents to free girl

A Detroit area couple keeping their 17 year old daughter chained to a basement bedframe were urged to release her and contact the Michigan Department of Social Services for help. DSS Director C Patrick Babcock urged reporting abuse and said investigators would assess if prosecution is warranted.

Kennedy Faces Complaint Over Car Incident

Victor Avila, 17, filed a Brighton District Court complaint accusing Rep. Joseph Kennedy II of assault after their cars nearly collided on a Brighton hill. Kennedy, 36, said he reprimanded the youth when they met later, and Avila planned to drop the complaint before reconsidering after Kennedy apologized.
