Sugar beet prospects praised by Idaho trip visitors

Messrs. Featherly and Carruthers returned from Idaho's beet fields with favorable notes for Beaverhead valley and Dillon sugar beet industry. They report beets yielding 12 to 26 tons per acre, costs about 35 to 40 dollars per acre, and prices around 4.50 per ton, with beets likely to rise in value. Land values climbed to 100 200 dollars an acre as population grows and ranches subdivide. Beets need modest water and sub-irrigated soil yields best results. four year growth projected.

Strong Republican Ticket Nominated in Montana Convention

The Montana Republican state convention in Helena last week nominated a full slate headed by Charles N. Pray for Congress and Edward Donlan of Missoula for governor. The platform endorses Taft and Sherman, Roosevelt policies, anti monopoly efforts, and state reforms including tax and labor laws. The convention praised lawmakers Carter and Dixon, and urged support for naval buildup and mineral land reclassification, with continued push for irrigation and health protections for miners.

Beav erhead Democrats Hold Dull County Convention

The second Beaverhead county Democratic convention met in Dillon on Wednesday with 33 delegates and a full county and legislative ticket nominated. The event was notably lifeless, marked by limited enthusiasm aside from Gov. Norris’s brief appearance and Thomas Scott’s sheriff nomination that he declined. The platform endorsed Denver and Anaconda party lines, praised current county offices, and attacked the county commissioners for flood repairs and spending.

Beavwerhead County Fair Prize Winners Listed

The Bea verhead County Fair association lists winners from the recent county fair. The baby of Mr. and Mrs. A I Badcon won two prizes for prettiest and biggest baby under twelve months. Anna Vageliu s baby won smallest baby. Ladies' Department prizes include embroidery by Miss Lareau first and Mrs Pfohl second, plus many textile and craft awards to numerous residents.

Death of Beaverhead County Pioneer George Haining

George Haining aged 86 long time Beaverhead County resident died last Monday at the home of his daughter and son in law Mr and Mrs J W Sutherland on Pacific street Dillon Funeral was held Wednesday at the Sutherland home with Dr A B Martin Presbyterian pastor Burial at Mountain View cemetery beside his wife He was born in Fredericton New Brunswick and moved to Montana in 1880 later ranching on Birch Creek He leaves four surviving children and many friends praised as a kind neighbor and devout Christian also noting six of his children predeceased him Excavation for James Paxton residence at Pacific and Reeder streets began this week contractor F P Birrer residence to be modern with steam heat electric lights and water system estimated at 7000
