Three Youths Apprehended After Chase Into Dillon
Three youths Bert Talin Frank Burns and Dan Lynch were halted by Dillon officers after a morning chase when the northbound passenger train arrived. They allegedly fled after being linked to a car theft in Butte and driven to Melrose before boarding the train to Dillon. Sheriff Hartwig helped capture two of the trio as they ran along the track shortly after disembarking.

Canoe Trip Down Hazardous Salmon River Ends in Riggin

The home of W. E. McGeehee on Barnett Street was damaged by a morning fire around 2 o clock. Police had detained the owner earlier that evening on a disturbance charge. Neighbors spotted the fire and the fire department arrived quickly, with only one wall and furnishings harmed.

Mrs Kate Burfiend Dies After Lingering Illness in Dillon
Dillon loses one of its early residents as Mrs Kate M Burfiend dies at home on South Washington after a long illness. Born in Germany April 9 1867 she came to the United States as a young woman and to Dillon 48 years ago. Survived by daughters Mrs George Banks and Mrs H H Bates of Dillon and Mrs Bertha Elliott of Fort Benton a son Dr George Burfiend of St Paul and several grandchildren.

Alun Jones Clinches Club Championship at Dillon Course
Alun Jones won the club championship after a dramatic match, defeating H. M. Brundage and W. G. Gilbert to claim the trophy. Ralph Harding took the first flight title, with I D Willis and T Lee McCracken and L K Adams contesting the second flight. 24 players entered. Next Sunday the Turner trophy tournament, with prizes donated by Mr. Turner of Union Electric, starts at 2 PM and honors handicaps.

Lone Bandit Robs Sheridan State Bank in Montana Heist
An unknown man held up the Sheridan State Bank on a Thursday afternoon after forcing car salesman George Schotte to drive him from Helena. He escaped with about 2500 dollars, firing at the cashier J H Gilbert and eluding capture as authorities spread the description across Montana Wyoming and Idaho. Some believe the bandit fled toward Canada.

Cattle testing for tuberculosis in Beaverhead County starts this week. Dr. W. J. Butler, visiting from Helena, arranged the work with local officials. Dr. George Ottley of Twin Bridges and Sheriff W. Mrs J U Stewart Dies in Portland. Rites Held in Wisdom
Mrs Joseph Uhlman Stewart 38, a Wisdom native formerly Nellie Pendleton, died after an operation in Portland Oregon. She leaves her mother Mrs J I Shaw of Wisdom, husband, three children, father in Logan, two sisters, a brother and several half siblings. Funeral services were held Sunday at the Presbyterian church in Wisdom with Rev Edward Smith of Butte officiating.

Hounds to Battle Beaverhead Lions
Mountain lions and wildcats face a planned hunt this fall and winter as three English trail hounds arrive in Dillon to pursue prowling cats. Fred Eudaily Clyde Edwards and G. Lee sponsor the hunt and have set up a modern kennel to raise the dogs for the pursuit.

Beaverhead County Fair Opens With Abundant Exhibits And Entertainment
The Beaverhead county fair opens soon with a packed program and many new features. Exhibits of vegetables and livestock are entering, races are training, and professional entertainment will thrill crowds both day and night. All exhibits must be entered by 5 PM Monday September 21 to be shown. Race stock owners should contact D A Galt early to avoid last minute entries. Gate admission is 50 cents, grandstand 25 cents, boxes 50 cents. The high school band will perform daily and appear in the parade along with the Elks drum corps. The parade will feature mechanical animals replacing typical floats. A morning hall game pits Madison county against Beaverhead. Night shows under floodlights add a new dimension, with the Pacific Coast carnival company also on grounds.

Forest Fire Near Sheridan Rages Through 600 Acres
A Monday forest fire near Sheridan, likely started by a carelessly dropped cigarette, burned about 600 acres of sagebrush and timber. Seventy-five men from Sheridan and additional crews from Twin Bridges and Butte worked into Tuesday evening, with cattle grazing nearby as crews fought the flames toward Tobacco Root range.
