Dillon Mothers Honored by Senator Norris Banquet

At the Anaconda banquet Senator Norris praised Montana mothers for the Spartan courage of sending sons to defend their country. He described tear-stained cheeks and the proud, unbeckoning farewell, noting Montana’s soldiers led battles and earned glory with such mothers behind them.

Tragedy at Red Rock Ends in Justified Shooting Verdict

In Beaverhead County Montana a quarrel over a water ditch between Alvin DeWitt and William L. McIntosh led to DeWitt fatally shooting McIntosh. A coroner jury found the shot justifiable though McIntosh died instantly. DeWitt surrendered to the sheriff and remained in custody. McIntosh, nearly 70, was a pioneer whose funeral followed the inquiry.

In Newark Michigan a Civil War wound left G B Steadman with ulcers for 20 years until Bucklin’s Arnica Salve cured him. Ad touts cures for outs bruises burns boils felons corns eruptions and piles. Central Pharmacy advertises the remedy at 25 cents per box. County Bonds Bid Round Chooses Elling Premium Winner

The county commissioners met this week chaired by Barrett with A L Anderson present. Bids for 40,000 refunding bonds were opened and four proposals were received: Elling Virginia City 505 premium Seymour Bros New York 850 W J Hayes Son Cleveland 220 First National Bank Butte 117. Bonds carry four percent interest and were awarded to Elling.
