The Beaverhead county community mourns the death of 70 year old pioneer William McIntosh killed near his Dillon area home. A large procession accompanied his remains to Mountain View cemetery for interment after services at the M. E. church. Residents extend sympathy to his wife and three children as neighbors recall his quiet, steadfast life.

Butte covers transport and hosts a banquet and medals. Local committees organize badges, fundraising, and transportation, aiming to raise at least 1000 dollars for a grand celebration.

Alvin DeWitt is discharged from all further prosecution for the killing of Wm McIntosh after a coroner's inquest and a Montana court order. Justice Vermillion released him without bail on September 11 1899 in Dillon following the county attorney's motion and finding of no guilt.
Helena dispatch reports Joseph H. Allen, a 21 year old quarter blood Indian, was hanged at the Lewis and Clark county jail at 6 06 am for the murder of J B Reynolds in June 1898. About 50 witnesses saw the swift execution after a prior self defense claim failed. The prior trial and appeal ended with a death sentence.
