William Cox a former local resident now in Twin Bridges traveled to Napa California after learning his brother Samuel Cox died of typhoid pneumonia at age 27. He learned of a fatal runaway injury to cousin Mrs Rowden of St Helena California last week.

Public schools in Dillon to open Monday for enrollment

The Dillon school system announces a start date of Monday September 1 with all grades to reopen. Parents are invited to meet teachers during classifying hours from 2 to 4 PM to discuss children’s needs and ensure proper enrollment and support before the term begins. Ernest Omer Conger aged five died after a prolonged illness. Funeral services were held at the family home on Railroad Avenue with Rev. R P Smith officiating and interment at Mountain View Cemetery.

Pioneers Meeting Highlights Virginia City Gathering

The Pioneers met in Virginia City this week drawing old timers from Montana and other states. Henry F. Edgar who helped name Alder joined the event and identified the first pan of dirt near Fairweather. About 800 attendees celebrated Virginia City as a social hub while Bozeman won the bid for the next gathering.

Principal Hiram Tyree Arrives to Lead City Schools

Prof Hiram Tyree arrives from La Grande Oregon to lead the city schools as new principal. A Virginia native and Milligan College graduate he has held multiple posts including county superintendent of Sherman County Oregon and La Grande schools. He declined Fresno superintendent post to take this assignment and aims to raise local schools to a high standard.

Dillon Mourns Local Youth Louis Murray

Louis J. Murray age 17, son of Elza Murray, died after an operation for strangulated hernia in Butte. His body arrived in Dillon Sunday evening and funeral services were held at St. James Episcopal church the next afternoon, conducted by Rev. 8. D. Hooker. Burial followed at Mountain View cemetery. many friends attended. Murray was a native of the valley with a bright future.

Mrs E B Werrick a famed dramatic reader and impersonator will perform for the Presbyterian church ladies on Friday evening September 8 at the Dillon theater. Admission is 60 cents with reserved seats at the post office. The engagement is praised by newspapers from coast to coast and promises a full house in Dillon.
