Semi centennial Dillon parade tallest Montana event
The Dillon semi centennial parade last Wednesday drew hundreds of visitors who praised its scale and authenticity. Leading the procession were Lt. Gov. Hazelbaker and ranch foreman Rodman, with groups portraying Beaverhead Auto Sales, the American Legion, Bannack Indians, Lewis and Clark reenactors, traders and miners. A covered wagon from First National Bank and oxen from Jacksons Hole highlighted the historic journey scenes.

Beaverhead chapter D A R unveiled a marker Thurs on St James guild hall lawn commemorating the first courthouse and an early school building in Dillon. The ceremony drew county fair visitors with a bugle call, songs, prayers, and remarks by Prof. R E Albright and Mrs. Laura T. Scott.

Car wrecked as evening train strikes vehicle near ranch
Deputy county clerk and recorder George R. Baker watched his car stall at a railroad crossing south of the Mike Lauterbach ranch. He tried to restart, then push across the grade but the car stalled and was struck by an evening passenger train. The vehicle was carried 250 yards and wrecked.

Esteemed Pioneer Matron Dies in Lewistown
Word came in Dillon on Wednesday of the death at Lewistown of Mrs. Rudolph Von Tobel mother of Mrs. A J Rife of this city. Mrs Rife and her husband left the same day for Lewistown to attend the funeral. Details were not learned and the news was received with regret by many friends in this area.

John Cavanaugh 59 dies after being struck by a car near the river bridge north of town. Bernard Whitworth swerved to avoid a pedestrian at about 1 am on the highway en route to a Dillmont park dance. an inquest is set for Friday morning. Cavanaugh, a longtime resident, recently worked at Horace Hand ranch near Brown's Station and is survived by his parents and other relatives in O Neill Nebraska.
