Armistice Day Observance Planned by Beaverhead Post

The Beaverhead American Legion post outlines a large scale Armistice Day program for the World War end anniversary. A parade led by the high school band, patriotic exercises, a possible football game, a banquet and dance are planned with speakers, a moment of silence, and a grand ball at City Hall. Local Ted Harper post members from Wisdom will assist.

All Saints Day and Bishop Fox Visit Scheduled

All Saints Day observances include a Holy Communion at St James church at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Bishop Fox will visit on Sunday November 2 with confirmation at 8 a.m., children's church at 10 a.m., and morning prayer at 11 a.m. A large sheep shipment of about 44 carloads to Idaho points leaves Saturday, sent by Burden & Ditty and Foster & Melton.

Wahl Elected Association Head in Western Montana

W. W. Wahl principal of Beaverhead county high school in Dillon was elected president of the western division of the Montana Education association at the annual convention in Butte. Wahl has served as principal for the past year and is regarded as a leading educator in western Montana.

Prisoner Leaps From Train Window Escapes

Frank Allen a 26 year old prisoner arrested in Blackfoot for saddle theft leaped from a lavatory window of a moving train between Spencer and Monida as it slowed near grade. Undersheriff Carl Hartwig transporting Allen halted when the door was found ajar and the escape detected.

Trio jailed for petty larceny at Dell airport camp

Myll Phillips Albert Florey and Kenneth Caldwell were sentenced by Judge Phillips to 60 days in the county jail for petty larceny. They were arrested for stealing articles of clothing from the airport camp at Dell.

Rotary Drill 10 to Be Installed at Well Nearby

The new rotary drilling equipment to be installed at the Beaverhead Alberta oil well south of the city will be transported to the site soon and put into operation quickly. The drill, purchased in California, is of the latest type and has drilled one well 7,300 feet deep. Oil and gas are present at the current depth of 8,600 feet and the same shaft will be used. Driller John O Day says enough pipe remains to finish the well, and two 60 horsepower boilers are being hauled to the site by Poindexter Orr Co to supply power.

Old-Time Friend Fires Fate After Bank Robbery

Sheriff Frank Metzel of Madison county was shot and killed by a longtime friend Clarence Bell after a Harrison State bank robbery in western Montana. The pursuit followed to the Bell ranch where Bell fired, fatally wounding Metzel as he believed bandits were in range. Bleck was wounded slightly. Jackson and Varnes eluded capture as a large manhunt continued in the region. Funeral arranged with Masonic and Elk orders. Honorary pallbearers include Lt Gov Hazelbaker and local officials.

Baptist Men Hold Interesting Meet at Dillon

A Monday evening gathering at the Baptist Cottage featured venison dinner and a program with Cam eron Gowen’s solos. A I Williams, national church layman leader, spoke on the T N T program for Baptist men and outlined practical methods to gain new members and build church fellowship in Dillon.
