Big Game Hunters Have Varied Luck
The opening of the big game season saw many hunters on forest and mountain trails, but few trophies. Deer were scarce due to dry weather and lack of snow, while elk hunters fared better with several successes. William Nelson and Charles Banks each harvested an elk, and J Callahan Fred Eudaily Tige Tallent Russell Smith also returned with elk from the Gallatin region. Butte Athletes Hurt in Smashup Near Mine Ranch
Four State School of Mines football players from Butte were injured when their car plunged from the highway near the Mike Rebich ranch south of town on Sunday afternoon. The vehicle turned over, two others were less hurt, and four were rushed to Barrett hospital after motorists stopped at the scene. The driver reportedly fell asleep, and a front-seat passenger awoke to steer before the crash.
