Katherine Orr reports that Montana State Federation of Women’s Clubs District No. 2 holds its third annual meeting in Dillon at the Training School auditorium on October 26 and 27. Open sessions invite delegates from Butte Anaconda Missoula and other clubs. Shakespeare Club hosts, active since 1892, with 35 members federated since 1904, led this year by Mrs. E. R. Mosher and Miss Edna Ketchum.

Bitter Root apples rotting as prices pin growers
Butte reports M A Henneberry says hundreds of barrels of apples and cherries lie on ground in Bitter Root valley due to high prices and lack of harvest labor. Growers say they receive 90 cents a box, cannot cover harvest costs, while neighboring counties see fruit rotting by the thousands. He urges substitution of fruit for other foods needed by allies.

Two Dillon Boys on Duty in Butte
Ed Drummey and Robert Ostrander, Dillon natives, serve with the Washington coast artillery company in Butte. Both enlisted in Seattle within a week after the war declaration and have trained continuously. Drummey, Beav erhead County High School alum and former state basketball champion, has a younger brother in the Montana National Guard. Ostrander, medical corps, is a Washington University graduate and former Wisdom druggist, well known in Butte and Dillon.

Freight Wreck Ties Up Northbound Traffic Near Neihart
Northbound freight No. 277 derailed at the Neihart crossing two miles north of town after a wheel broke on a center car. Ten cars left the track, seven irreparably damaged, scattering baled hay coke canned goods and general merchandise along the right of way. The wrecking crew cleared the line by 2 pm and the early passenger, No. 29, was held at Dillon for seven hours.

Coroner's Jury Rules Automobile Fatality to Train Crash
County Coroner Dr. Ford led an inquest into the death of Mrs. Mary A. Patterson who died when her car was struck by passenger train number 31 near Dell last Friday.
