Montana Band Thrills 168th Infantry at Charlotte Concert

Fred Bechtold of the 163 Montana infantry band forwards a clipping on the 168th Band concert in Charlotte’s city auditorium. More than 5,000 attendees enjoyed Sousa marches, Dixie, The Star Spangled Banner, and multiple solos by Kleinert Casey and others. Mayor McNinch praised the soldiers and hinted at future Sunday concerts.

Beaverhead Lumber Team Hit by Train in Sunday Accident

A Beaverhead Lumber team wandered onto a northbound railroad track Sunday morning about a mile south of town. The team was struck by a passenger train. one animal was killed outright and another was severely injured and shot. The team value was about $600.

Federation of Women’s Clubs District No 2 meet in Dillon

The third annual meeting of District No 2 of the Federation of Women's clubs will be in Dillon on Friday and Saturday October 26 and 27. The Shakespeare club hosts and invites club women to attend. Officers of the district are Mrs. Edwards of Hamilton president, Mrs. Matthew Orr of Dillon vice president, and others.

Prizes Awarded for Boys and Girls in Dillon

Under the Good Government club prizes were given for money earned from May to September 15, 1917 and for work on gardens. Awards include Blair Sprinkle 118 dollars earned with 10 dollar prize, Nellie Little 100 dollars with 7.50 prize, Hollis Harrison 80 dollars with 5 dollar prize, and a 30 dollar account plus a cow and calf for Charles Perry with 2.50 prize. Garden awards of 4 dollars each went to Anastacia Boger Lillian Conger Dortha Schwartz Mary Toan and Emery Smith. The report notes many others and highlights tidy yards and landscape improvements at Toan's yard and gardens and several others in Dillon. The committee urges continued efforts to beautify the city and provide food gardens.

Dahl Peterson of Bedrock who enlisted in the navy several months ago has been home on furlough. He is stationed at Mare Island, San Francisco. Dahl looked fine in his sailor togs.

Death of Fidel Christian Hartwig A Ranch Life Ended

Fidel Christian Hartwig eldest son of Mrs Veronika Hartwig of Reichle died Wednesday morning Oct 10 after a three month illness from heart leakage. Born Feb 5 1890 on the ranch he spent most of his life there except one year in Town. Funeral was held at the ranch at 1 pm with interment in the nearby family burying ground. The family mourners extend sympathy across the county.

Third Contingent Arrives Safely at American Lake

IrnA M. Wagner of the 127th Company 106 Depot Brigade reports the third quota of the selective draft arrived safely at American Lake Washington on October 9. He notes pleasant travel with parades in towns, thanks Dillon residents for courtesies and praises Red Cross badges. He compares climate to Montana and sends regards to friends.

Three Professionals Cited Under New Auto Ordinance

A surgeon, a lawyer with livestock interests, and a Bannack Street grocer were arrested Sunday for auto ordinance infractions. They pleaded guilty and were fined $1 to $5. Officials noted the fines matched the ordinance but the judge cited no provision for their higher purses.

Western Union will open its new telegraph office in the Tele phone block formerly the Candy Kitchen on November 1 with Ross John as manager. The room is being fitted for the new occupant and a ten year lease is reported secured by Western Union.

Auto Wreck Near Dell Injures Grant Family

An automobile carrying A. Grant and family from Sprague Washington was struck by No 31 at a grade crossing near Dell. The man sustained a broken thigh and shoulder bruising while Mrs Grant had internal injuries. The 9 year old son suffered facial cuts. the four year old appeared only lightly hurt. All were taken to Dillon for treatment as doctors assess their conditions.

Dillon opens season tickets for the annual lyceum course with seven attractions planned four musical numbers.
