County commissioners appointed judges of election for 21 precincts. Polling places remain as before with postable changes if needed. Open times differ by precinct size under a new law: under 100 voters start at 1 pm, larger precincts at 8 am.
The Beaverhead county republican central headquarters opened last week in Rooms 17 and 18 in the White Block where campaign work is now conducted. Chairman Sam Ditty announced a large stock of campaign literature available to visitors. Mr and Mrs Louis Stahl returned from Idaho Falls praising the air conditioned trains.
Twenty four Naval college graduates are candidates for the office of county superintendent in Montana. Dillon hunters opened the annual barrage on ducks last Saturday morning but returned with lighter bags than in years past. Birds flew so high after the hour set for going over the top that an anti aircraft gun would have trouble reaching them. Still, many city tables enjoyed the first roast duck of the season, as the lucky few shared generously with friends.
With a record turnout, the city hall gathering of the American Legion outlined plans for Armistice Day events and a broad fall and winter activity schedule. Commander T. Lee McCracken presided as factions Buck Privates led by Alvin M. Jones and Past Commanders led by Guy Combes vie for membership honors.
The Dillon Girl Scouts and Brownies organize a third troop after a fall meeting with over sixty girls. Mrs. Norman Henry leads the new troop with Mrs. Bacon and Mrs. Clifford Berry as lieutenants, while existing leaders continue with Blue Mountain and Brownie packs. Swimming classes and training courses are planned for the coming year.
At the October meeting the Beaverhead board of county commissioners established voting times for the general election on November 3. Precincts with fewer than 100 registered electors open at 1 p.m., while those with 100 or more open at 8 a.m. Polls close after all registered voters have cast ballots but not later than 6 p.m. Counties and precincts listed include Dillon areas and surrounding communities. State commissions praised local setup and noted high grant averages for Beaverhead in early applicants.
