Beavers Rally to Beat Butte Reds 19 7

Beavers surge to a 19 to 7 victory over Butte Reds after overcoming an 18 point season opener loss. Don Wheat scored a TD and Charley Burgess caught for six, with Wheat adding a late run. Captain Wheat and Burgess starred on offense as Dillon's defense held firm in a first half standout effort.

Beav erhead Pioneer Maude Gannon Dies in California

Former Dillon matron Maude Gannon, a longtime Beav erhead County resident, died in San Bernardino California after an extended illness. Born April 13 1877 in Lincoln County Nevada she moved to Dillon with her parents as a child and lived there for years. Funeral services are set for Thursday at 2 30 p m from Brundage Funeral Home with Rev J A Meeke of the Methodist church officiating. Interment will be Mountain View Cemetery. She is survived by four children four sisters a brother and six grandchildren and her mother Mrs E A Retallack of Dillon.

Snake Hunters Use Fish Hooks in Frying Pan Area

In Argenta, Carl Shafer and Ernest Knapp, noted rattlesnake hunters, reported a big day Sunday using fish hooks on lines to pull snakes from their holes for quick dispatch. They claim to have killed about a thousand snakes over the past two years, with a 75 snake haul as their largest single day.

Rotary Theme Looks at New Housing View in Dillon

Dillon Rotary members heard W J Howard of Helena discuss housing problems and the role of local lumber dealers. He said modern homes need better plumbing insulation and wiring and that a house costs two to two and a half times the family income. He urged careful planning and budgeting, showing example houses. Federation Holds County Meeting Here

Dillon Shakespeare club hosted the Beaverhead Federation of Women's clubs for the semi annual meeting at St James Guild hall. Delegates and 32 visitors from Wisdom and Wise River attended, with Mrs C W Francis of Wisdom presiding and Miss Jean Bishop giving the invocation.

More than 2 000 Hereford cattle sold at the Car D ranch owned by F A Hazelbaker drawing buyers from Iowa Illinois Nebraska Ohio Texas and across the United States. Auctioneer L W Bradley led the event with top cattle at 10 10 per hundred, average 8 20, and cattle officials praising current market prices as crowds watched from bleachers benches and roof edges.

Dillon Youths Hurt In Automobile Accident Near Lima

Frisco Baker William Stewart and R B Billings suffered head injuries when their car skidded off the road near Lima after a tire blow out. Stewart was confined at the Bar R hospital for a head injury while the other two received treatment. The vehicle was badly damaged. Mr T E Gilbert spent Monday in Anaconda on business.

Third Annual Beaverhead Ram Sale Scheduled in Dillon

Five hundred Rambouillets crossbreeds and Hampshire rams will be offered at Dillon’s county stock pavilion on Saturday for the third annual Beaverhead ram sale. Seven leading southwestern Montana breeders have consigned, with Col. A. G. Jones of Miles City as auctioneer. Local and Idaho sheepmen are expected, and rams often remain near home to assist nearby flocks. The event, in the same ring as the Dillon bull sale, aims to improve regional flocks, says secretary-manager Bernard R. Williams.

Fire Season Reported As Average for Beaverhead Forest

W. B. Willey, Beaverhead National Forest supervisor, says the 1937 fire season was average with 19 fires in the summer. Ten were lightning caused and nine man made. 13 in class A, three in class B, and three in class C. Man caused fires rose to nine this year, above last year and the five year average. Fire danger ratings by day from June 15 to September 15 show classification levels from Class 1 to Class 3.

J. E. Monroe Marker Is Dedicated

Joseph Eaton Monroe longtime Dillon educator and business leader was honored with a dedicatory marker at State Normal college. The ceremony, led by Elizabeth Winn and a Masonic committee, highlighted Monroe’s service to the community and weather observation.
