The Business and Professional Women’s club will dedicate a bronze marker at Normal college Sunday at 2:30 p.m. honoring Joseph Eaton Monroe who observed weather for 40 years ending with his death in 1936. Speakers include J F McBain and R W Getty. inscription quotes as noted. The Anaconda Copper Mining Company donated the marker.

Rancher of Sage Creek Dies Friday
Peter Anderson a well known Sage Creek rancher in Beaverhead county died Friday at Barrett hospital. Born in Sweden May 1 1863 he came to America as a child and settled in Beaverhead in 1882. Funeral Monday at Brundage chapel with Rev J A Meeke officiating. Interment Mountain View cemetery. Survived by his widow a brother in Alaska and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers named Smith McKnight Leo Truax Pascal Bimet Ray Martinell Lee Martinell Emery Keller.

Public inspection of the new residence halls at State Normal College will be held Sunday afternoon October 10 from 3 to 530. Dean Angeline Smith and staff will welcome visitors. The $181000 project included grants and bonded debt with a 20 year amortization plan.

Dillon hosts its first purebred Hereford bull sale at the stock pavilion with 70 animals selling for 11830 dollars. Top bid of 425 dollars went to Young Randolph from the Jesse Bradley herd, while Advance Return brought 390 dollars for Myron W. Beatty. Five bulls exceeded 800 dollars. principal buyers were Beaverhead and Madison county ranchers.

Franklin D Roosevelt toured the Northwest for twelve days to visit his family and assess public reaction to the New Deal. He greeted Wyoming Senator Joseph O Mahoney and spoke briefly on the Cheyenne stop while avoiding mention of the Court Bill. John Cavran of Big Hole Dies After Illness
John Cavran 46, a well-known Big Hole basin resident and Austrian native, died at Barrett hospital last Friday after a lingering illness. He had worked as a ranch hand in the area and was honored by a Brundage chapel funeral with the Jackson I O O F lodge in charge. Surviving relatives include his mother and stepfather Antone and Mrs Dremla of Butte, two sisters Mrs Platt of Dillon and Mrs Rebich of Butte, a brother Peter of Great Falls, and several nieces and nephews.

Old-time Lima Resident Dr Louis C Ford Dies at 85
Dr Louis C Ford 85 longtime Lima resident and Beaverhead county coroner died at home after years of illness. Born July 4 1852 in Keokuk Iowa he moved west as a young doctor and settled in Lima in 1889 where he served frontier patients. He held Masonic lodge titles in Dillon and Lima and membership in Shriners Scottish Rite and K T. Survived by wife Lucy two daughters and two sons plus multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday in Lima with Evergreen Lodge A F and A M and a Commandery escort.

Youth Held In Jail For Auto Thefts
A 17 year old from Iowa, Harold Knutson, is jailed awaiting word from authorities after allegedly stealing two cars from Dillon sales yards to head for the coast. He admits taking one car from Dillon Motors and leaving the other on cemetery hill after it ran out of gas. Also reported are arrests for speeding and drunken driving by Montana State Highway Patrol, including Jack Selway fined ten dollars and license revoked, Thomas Brooks bonded for trial, and W H Olsen fined one hundred dollars with license revocation.

C D Hereford Sale to Be Broadcast On Radio
The Frank A Hazelbaker C Bar D auction of 2000 head of cattle will be aired by NBC for an hour and a half starting at 2 pm next Tuesday. The 85 mile wire feed to Butte will carry the broadcast with ringside bidding heard live and even cattle sounds captured. A Life photographer is expected to attend to document what could be one of the region’s largest sales.
