Germ classified and antitoxin research advances noted

Harvard official Dr Aycock reports the paralysis germ is classified and a suitable animal to produce antitoxin is sought. Flexner and Noug ht of Rockefeller Institute agree the germ is tiny and passes through filters. postevidence of car industry forecasts and wartime readiness appear alongside Harvard president Lowell on education and youth.

Gilbert County Attorney Elected District Commander of Legion

At a Saturday meeting in this city about 100 war veterans from Butte Anaconda Deer Lodge and local posts attended. Gilbert county attorney was chosen district commander with Bill Ashton of Helena as vice commander and W J Webb of Anaconda as adjutant. Helena will host the next district meeting. A constitutional change to require each district to elect and pay a delegate to the national convention was adopted.

J H Kupfer Dies in Butte Hospital After Illness

J H Kupfer an old time Dillon resident died Tuesday morning at Murray hospital in Butte after about two weeks illness and an operation. Born 65 years ago in Corrine Utah he came to Montana in 1879 and lived in Dillon before moving to Butte then Spokane. Surviving relatives include his mother. the obituary notes he remained active in the local community during earlier years.

Beavers Travel to Anaconda for Season Opener

Coach B J Gunderson leads the Beavers to Anaconda for their first game of the season against a strong district rival. Anaconda’s best team in years tests Dillon’s squad, which has shown improving blocking tackling and passing. Beaverhead seeks its first victory in Mining district play after wins and losses in prior non district games.

Local Independents to Clash with Englewood Sunday

The local Independents formed last week will play two games against Englewood Independents of Butte next Sunday afternoon. Members include Orrin Babb C A Bechler James Andrus Larry Price Floyd Kerr Dell Lloyd Lyston Dansie Edgar Williams Dale Metlen Bill Angrove and Dan Henneberry, many former high school or college stars.

Dillon Couple Are Married in Butte

Malcom Stone and Mona Rouse of Dillon wed in Butte after an initial Deer Lodge county ceremony. The minister remarried them at midnight in Butte after discovering cross county license issues. The couple plans a California honeymoon and will return to Dillon to reside.

Turner Sponsors Golf Course Improvements

Harry Turner of Butte, president of the Union Electric Company, arranged for moving a rustline to the grounds for a clubhouse. A man was hired to clear rocks and debris from the ninth green area. The club credits Turner for grading fairways and funding improvements that elevate the course to state or national standards. The clubhouse, part of the Conger ranch, will be relocated near the ninth green by John Kent, with verandas and interior refinishing to create a comfortable clubhouse and locker room.

Monida man fined $50 for disturbance

Mike Fitzgerald was brought by Sheriff W. C. Orr to answer a disturbance charge in justice court. He pleaded guilty and was fined $50 by Judge L. P. Phillips.

Beaverhead High School junior fair celebrates crops and crafts

The Beaverhead County High School annual junior fair closed with exhibits in livestock crops and domestic science. Winners in sheep swine poultry and produce were named and a Saturday evening program and dance followed the awards. A Missouri tornado impact story from a son of H S Andrus was also noted with Red Cross relief efforts.

Local Sportsmen Prep for Deer Season Opens October 15

Beaverhead county hunters ready for deer season which runs October 15 to November 15 with deer of any age or sex legal outside elk protected areas. County designated as an elk reserve prohibits elk hunting here while Montana-wide season runs through November 15. One buck or one bull is allowed per hunter unless stated otherwise.

Two Big Sales to Be Held October 20 22 in Beaverhead County

Ranchers in Beaverhead County will see two public auctions next week. On Thursday October 20 at Glen on the Dillon Butte highway Luther Smith will auction the Chris Snyder ranch of 520 acres with water rights and a full line of farm implements, followed by the sale of personal property including 115 feeder pigs 33 other pigs horses cows and household goods. On Saturday October 22 at the Nedrow ranch one mile north of Dillon Mary Gist administratrix R K Nedrow and Luther Smith will conduct the closing out sale of the Gist Nedrow partnership and Gist estate with 70 head cattle 38 horses 121 sheep 51 hogs poultry and machinery plus household goods. a free lunch will be served.
