New State Highway To Be Opened Soon
County engineer George Metlen says a new federal and state highway from Browne's Bridge to Melrose built this summer by O'Conner and Patrick will soon open after inspection by the state highway commission. Courage in vain as two men die in slough crash
Jack Scofield of Virginia City tried for nearly two hours to rescue his companion Frank McEdwards after their car slid into a deep slough near Point of Rocks. McEdwards died on the way to hospital. Scofield survived, later hospitalized. McEdwards, 51, formerly Madison county farm supervisor, was laid to rest at Sheridan.

Word reached Dillon last Saturday that Edmund Decker 12 son of Mr and Mrs Carl Decker of Los Molinas California was killed when accidentally shot by a companion near his home. He attended local schools and was known for his manly ways and cheerful disposition.

Driver speeds away after hitting girl in hit and run
A speeding driver struck Miss Gladys Williams at the corner of Washington and Orr streets last Sunday evening and fled the scene. The Normal college student, badly bruised, returned to her studies the next day. Several witnesses helped but could not obtain the vehicle number.

Wesley Wynes a Beaverhead native and Dillon resident died at his Kentucky avenue home from blood poisoning due to an infected hand. He cut his hand ten days earlier on broken glass but stayed in the city until Thursday afternoon. Surviving mother, brother Norman, two half brothers Warren and Arthur Contway, an uncle Charles Contway, and sister Mrs Elmer Dunn of Palo Alto. Funeral was Saturday at 2 pm with Rev H B Ricketts officiating. Interment in Mountain View cemetery.
