J E Morse Remembered As Dillon’s Leading Sheepman

J E Morse prominent Montana sheepman and Dillon rancher died at Barrett hospital from coronary embolism after a week of illness. A lifelong community leader, he organized Dillon Implement, chaired Beaverhead county Republican efforts, and served as mayor in 1899. Survived by wife Ida, daughters Blanche and Alma, son Howard, and three grandchildren. Funeral at St James Episcopal with interment in Mountain View cemetery.

Early Snow Storm Paralyzes County Roads Near Armstead

A heavy early snow storm blocked the county highway near Armstead for nearly 24 hours last Thursday and Friday. The drifted snow buried fences and stalled 17 cars while about fifty tourists and ranchers sought shelter as crews cleared the road. The storm traveled across Madison county, sparing Dillon but causing similar drifts in the area.

Shriners to Visit Idaho from Dillon and Boise

Dillon Shriners will travel to Idaho Falls next Monday for a ceremonial with Boise and other Idaho units. The annual visit of Bagdad nobles to George Dart, reigning potentate of Dillon, remains untimed but likely after the general election.

Blaze at Bassett Home Destroys Storeroom Origin

A fire caused by an overheated stove damaged the Bassett home and a storeroom building last Friday morning. Damage is estimated between 900 and 1000 dollars with interior nearly destroyed and valuable goods burned. the fire department arrived promptly.

Stolen Chevy Recovered Near Armstead

Coach B J Gunderson reported his Chevrolet coupe stolen from in front of the Andrus hotel last evening. The owner found the car undamaged that afternoon after Stock Inspector D V Erwin spotted it on the road a few miles this side of Armstead. it had run out of gas.

Foxes Noted As Among Best Seen At Dillon Fur Farm

Seattle visitors George Morrison and J E Mc Donald registered and scored the Dillon fur farm north of the city declaring the local foxes among the best they had ever seen.

Isaac F Willard Dies In Twin Falls Idaho

R. P. Willard reports the death in Twin Falls Idaho on September 26 of Isaac F Willard aged 75. A prominent old time ranchman, he had lived in Idaho for many years and is survived by his wife and four brothers Edmund H J A David and R P with David in Fort Benton Montana and the two latter residents of Montana.

German Royalty Hunts Ducks in Centennial Montana

Baron and Baroness Maximilian von Romberg of Weis baden Germany visited Beaverhead county this week. They spent several days duck hunting at Redrock Lakes and praised the hunting as excellent. The baroness, Emily Hall, a former Butte girl, now resides in California. They plan an extended big game hunt in northern Montana after their duck hunting.

Taxes show $61,000 drop in Beaverhead County 1928 books

Beaverhead county 1928 tax books show a drop of $61,804.55 in taxes and a $386,617 decrease in taxable valuation from 1927. The total tax roll is $362,796.27, down from $424,080.82 in 1927, with payments due at the November collection.

Mrs Lizette Rounds dies at Barrett hospital from a fractured skull after slipping on cellar steps in Dillon. The 1873 Evanston Wyoming native was a longtime Dillon resident and Eastern Star leader. she survived by her father, two brothers, a sister, and several nieces and nephews. Death claims H D Cashmore in Portland hospital

Herbert Dewey Cashmore oldest son of Mr and Mrs W F Cashmore of Dillon died Sunday at a Portland hospital after an intestinal ailment worsened by an operation. He was born in Dillon April 28 1898 and graduated from Beaverhead County High School in 1917. He served in World War I and earned honors at Montana State College Bozeman before joining the federal sanitary corps. He leaves parents four brothers and an uncle and grandfather in Dillon and Helena.

Students to Track Ram Bouillet Sheep Experiment
