Dillon Honors Beaverhead Contingent At Parade To Camp Lewis

A large civic gathering in Dillon marked the departure of forty four Beaverhead men for Camp Lewis. Judge Smith presided as President J E Monroe urged loyalty and democracy. Four reported deserters advertised for arrest while pink cards remain possible for late arrivals.

Officials Visit on Brief Dillon Stop by Rail Executives

A special train carrying Union Pacific and Oregon Short Line Railroad officials made a brief stop in Dillon last Saturday afternoon. The inspection team included E. E. Calvin president of Union Pacific and Oregon Short Line, H. V. Platt vice president and OSL general manager, F. H. Knickerbocker OSL general superintendent at Pocatello, and C. E. Brooks Montana division superintendent, also at Pocatello.

Graeter Grocery Renovates Store For New Office

The Graeter Grocery company moved their office to a rear balcony built space with a wall window and a broom seeing the office for the bookkeeper. The old office was torn out and a new side door will be used for loading, replacing the front access. The overall improvement enhances store operations.

The Northern Division urges every citizen to examine the American Red Cross before deciding on membership. It calls the Red Cross the official link for comfort between home and trench and says members prove they back the troops. It emphasizes that the public needs the Red Cross, but the organization believes individuals need it more.

Clarence Hoerning writes from American Lake about life in the Machine Gun Battalion of the 346th, describing the camp as a city with long buildings, strict drilling, structured daily hours, ample meals, and ample off days for Tacoma and Seattle. He notes dances on American Lake, stockyards, prize fighting, Y M C A programs, Victrola records, and a six month training horizon before deployment to France.

Death of William Henry Estell Pneumonia Victim

William Henry Estell aged 65 died of pneumonia at his Sweetwater basin home after a five day illness. The body was taken to Brundage for burial preparation. Funeral is planned for Saturday at 2 PM. Born October 17, 1852 in Canada, he lived much of his life in the United States and farmed and raised stock. Interment will be at Mountain View Cemetery beside his daughter, Mrs. John Ball, who preceded him in death.

Stage Driver Hurt In Runaway Near Bannack

James Powell, a stage driver between Bannack and Jackson, suffered a compound fracture of the left leg when his stage overturned Monday near Bannack. He was moved to Magnus hospital in Dillon by Fred Hale and Arthur Contway after doctors found bone punctured flesh on both sides. One horse dragged clear of the harness and followed the others back to town.
