Senator Caraway of Arkansas urges the United States to exhume and repatriate about 30,000 American soldiers buried in France. He claims Europeans despise Americans and cites crosses bearing insults as evidence of hostility while lamenting soldiers’ deaths in European conflicts.
Two runaway teams electrified Dillon as crowds watched. A team owned by W. E. Stinson ran down Rife street after the driver left to close a gate, crashing into a woven fence but injuring no horses or wagon. Later, J. W. Deputy's team pulled a farm wagon from the Tribune rear, losing the wagon box and rear wheels as it darted through streets, narrowly missing cars and causing scattered damage.
The memorial commission will not announce the site for the Lewis and Clark memorial until a formal report is prepared. Chief Justice Callaway, chairman, stated that no announcement may be made before the 1927 legislature receives the report as directed by the creative act. Seven cities have proposed sites and delayed public meetings were held to hear claims.
Douglas Thomas a Dillon student at the state university has been pledged to the Bearpaw an exclusive fraternity according to word received by his friends here.
Hundreds of outsiders are expected as guests of the city stores for a large array of bargains during Community Day. The event highlights sales, discounts, and special offers aimed at shoppers from outside the city.
City hall hosts a Saturday evening gathering as a large class of candidates joins the Modern Woodmen camp. A Bow team from Butte in Montana attends, with Kapispell noted for honors amid a state of excitement.
The Dillon rally at city hall marks the formal opening of Beaverhead Republicans campaign with Ronald Higgins seeking Congress in the Second District. County leaders elected A F Waldorf chairman and Frank Merrill vice chairman with W D Ross as secretary. Bishop H H Fox will spend the weekend in Dillon visiting parishioners and preaching at St James Episcopal Church. A large congregation is expected as the diocese leader tours every parish yearly. Miss Lucy H Carson of the Normal school faculty will begin a class on The Literature and Drama next Sunday at 10 o'clock for young people.
Henry Miller, 66, died Thursday evening at Barrett hospital after a three week illness. A Beaverhead County resident for 45 years he helped develop Redrock in early days and has lived in Armstead for ten years. Survived by two daughters, one in Canada and another in this city, plus two aunts in Dillon and Salmon Idaho. Funeral held at St James Episcopal Church with Rev C H Parlour officiating. interment in Mountain View cemetery.
Charles A. Kyle state bridge engineer and C N Krogstad opened the Salmon bridge to travel at noon this Wednesday. Norton’s car was the first to pass over it after opening, and the detour route is now a past concern. Remaining work includes polishing exterior surface and cleanup, but the public can use the structure.
The Dead Sea is highly impregnated with mineral matter and bathers float easily. However swimmers struggle as their feet tend to rise above the water.
The citywide event features an open house at the high school with a banquet and demonstrations. Music at City Hall by the AG Club precedes an old time dance to close the program.
Hundreds of Beaverhead families travel to Dillon for a one day event substituting the county fair. Schools and merchants showcase bargains while 26 Smith-Hughes students display grains hay vegetables and livestock in the agricultural building and basement pavilion.
Dillon braces for an oil boom as Crowley Oil company resumes work on the Frying Pan basin well and Beaverhead Alberta Oil & Gas restarts a south of town site. Dr. T. A. Grigg from Butte finalized plans for Beaverhead Alberta, while a new deal will restart Crowley’s drill soon. Early indicators suggest a rapid race to strike oil.
The Rev. H. B. Ricketts united Harry J. Grimes and Elsse I. Conley in marriage last Saturday evening at the courthouse. The bride’s sister Georgia Conley and O. C. Gosman witnessed.
Undersheriff Frank Kellum and Chief Charlie Nelson witnessed the first degree murder case execution in Butte. Tony Vettere, accused of killing three men, resisted with a pipe and knife until tear gas. Kellum brought home the execution knot as a grisly memento.
