Death claims well known Dillon man Antone Gelhaus

Antone Gelhaus, a longtime Dillon resident and beaverhead county rancher, died after an appendicitis operation at St James hospital in Butte. He was born May 5 1874 in Riverside Iowa and moved to Montana about 25 years ago. Survived by four sisters and five brothers, his funeral was held at St Rose Catholic church in Dillon with burial in Riverside Town.

Prairie Fire Extinguished On Kentucky Avenue

Firemen answered a Tuesday 8 pm call to a vacant lot on Kentucky Avenue where dry weeds and grass burned in an unknown manner. The chemical engine protected fences and telephone poles with little damage, attracting a large crowd. it was the department’s longest run in some time.

The board of county commissioners will open their regular monthly session Monday Oct. 4 and all claims must be filed at the office of the clerk and recorder by Saturday Oct. 2.

Wisdom Creamery Wins First Prize in Spokane Fair

Wisdom creamery's Big Hole Pride butter captured first prize and sweepstakes at the Inland Empire fair in Spokane, beating many larger creameries. Manager A. R. Leverich and president J. P. Loss lead a rancher-owned operation praised for its Montana dairy district. Big Hole Pine butter will enter the National Dairy Show in December.

Old Time Mining Man Khuni Passes at 72

Beaverhead county reports the death of Bob Khuni aged 72 after a three week hospital stay in Barrett. An Austrian-born prospector and craftsman, he lived in Elk horn district for over 40 years and naturalized in 1887. Frank Gorman named executor as no relatives remain. Funeral held Thursday at St Rose Church with burial in Mountain View cemetery.

Dog Poisoning Foiled Near Telephone Office

A Chesapeake hunting dog owned by Dr. A H. McFarland was saved from poisoning after emergency measures taken Wednesday at noon. The dog collapsed on the sidewalk near the telephone office, friends alerted the doctor, restoratives were applied, and the animal soon recovered.

Modern Woodmen Initiates Large Class in Dillon

Beaverhead residents mourn John W. Ewing who died in Lewistown after a days long illness. Surviving relatives include wife, daughter Grace, another daughter Mrs. Clifford Reed, and several grandchildren. Ewing was a longtime rancher and Mason, funeral held at Mountain View Cemetery. Modern Woodmen in Dillon plan a housing meeting October 2 to initiate 40 candidates with South Butte camp oversight. A basketball team and social events are planned to boost winter activities with M. W. A. players from the area.

Death summons Mrs. Mary Craver of Medicine Lodge

Mrs Mary D Craver longtime Beaverhead County resident died at her ranch in Medicine Lodge last Sunday after a lingering illness She was 74 born in Delaware County Iowa and came west with her husband They built a large ranch Mrs Craver managed it after her husband died Survivors include daughters Flora Wright Edith Freeman and son Tom Craver Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Methodist Church with Rev Edward Smith of Butte officiating and interment in Mountain View Cemetery

Dillon Dry Goods to Close Out With Big Sale

Dillon Dry Goods announces a closing out sale starting next Saturday. All stock valued at $60,000 will be sold at extremely low prices as owner A. J. Wedum disposes of remaining interests to fund holdings in California. The sale runs from 9 a.m. Saturday until sold out, with the store closed Thursday and Friday for marking and display.
