Decrease in Beaverhead County Assessed Valuation Report

Beaverhead county shows a total assessed property value drop of over one million dollars from last year. The gap is blamed on many taxpayers undervaluing property, with actual full value totaling 35 380 470 while assessed value stands at 11 119 752 about one third. Taxes rise to 477 256 27 from 421 788 84. Dillon sees a tax drop of 95 792 45. special assessments exceed last year by over 11 000. The Dillon Rod and Gun Club held its annual Thanksgiving shoot at Dillmont park on Sunday. Winners who earned gobbler trophies included H. Brundage, Otto Schultz, C. C. Thornton, George Melton, R. Fryburg, A. Graeter, Chester Gilbert, Nick Birrer, W. C. Orr, C. L. Carter, Frank Schultz, Ed Roe. Visiting sportsmen from Butte, Great Falls and Anaconda joined the event, as a large crowd watched several strong performances.

Mrs Mary Judge and her daughter, Mrs George Taylor, motored to Butte and Anaconda on Monday to spend time with relatives and see local sights, according to a brief society note.

Dillon High Triumphs 16 0 Over Deer Lodge in Cold Thanksgiving Game

In zero weather Dillon High defeated Deer Lodge High 16 to 0 on a frozen field. Andy Smith opened with a drop kick for three points, Hatfield intercepted and ran forty yards, Wyman Smith scored on a broken field, and another Smith reception set up a final touchdown.

Beaverhead Post Plans Legion Club Rooms and Activities

Beaverhead Post members discussed securing space in city hall for Legion club rooms, with plans to host a smoker and entertainment once ready. A committee will coordinate with Mrs. Sewell on an operetta or oratorio, and a Legion basketball team is to form with practice at the High School gym. The skating rink site nears completion as cold weather approaches.

Funeral of Carl Spencer Held Monday Afternoon

The funeral for Carl Spencer who died last Saturday in a Butte hospital after a several week illness was conducted Monday afternoon at the Methodist church by Rev. H G Humphrey. Interment followed at Mountain View cemetery. He was a son of Lyman Spencer, a well known valley rancher. Spencer was born in Pennsylvania 94 years ago and came to Beaverhead county with his parents. He is survived by three brothers and two sisters.

Man Charged With Forgery Arrested After Train Stop

A man who gave the name W. M. McMullan forged and cashed a $25 check at Hughes and McCaleb on a previous stop then repeated the act in Lima. Arrested on arrival in Dubois Idaho he was brought to Dillon Sunday and faces forgery charges. Reports say he signed his own name to the bogus checks and is an old offender with two prior penitentiary terms.

Jeanette Rankin former Montana congresswoman and Zurich International Congress of Women delegate will deliver a message from the congress to Montana men and women at the Butte High School Auditorium Tuesday night December 2 1919. She is en route to Boston to address the American Legion.

State Lands Sales in 1919 Shatter Previous Records

Helena November 26. The 1919 report by Sidney Miller Register of State Lands shows Montana sold 159 540.88 acres for 2 501 633 78 dollars, with an average price 15 58 per acre. Sheridan county led with 19 18, Blaine county had the largest acreage at 31 030 29 acres, and Big Horn county had the lowest average at 10 83 per acre. Most sales were grazing land, supporting price gains despite three years of drought.

Spokane Cattle Company sells its 10 000 acre Wisdom ranch in the Big Hole basin to John Herman of Kalispell for 455 000 dollars. Cattle and other property valued at 200 000 dollars are included. The ranch lies 70 miles from Butte and includes five sets of buildings. Beaverhead county taxes on the property are noted. Pat Layden a rancher from south of Dillon was hospitalized after colliding with a car Tuesday evening while riding a horse in Ryans canyon. His companion saw the approaching vehicle and left the road. Layden’s injuries are not yet known.

Bonds F K Gilman Charged With Grand Larceny in District Court

F K Gilman, a rancher from the West River section of the Big Hole basin, faces grand larceny charges in district court. The allegation states he slaughtered a beef owned by Miller Development Company last spring after a justice court trial and was placed under bonds.
