Twenty silver black foxes escaped through a guard fence hole on Twin Bridges road at the Beaverhead Fur Farm. They roamed for hours before Roy Forrester and aides recaptured or shot them. by 10:30 all were accounted for. The farmer pledged a guard, and some hides were salvaged.
John Kambich and his son John Jr. were in town midweek on business. Kambich is a longtime Tribune subscriber, having supported the paper for nearly thirty years.
The sheriff's office reports the theft of about 250 pounds of dynamite from the Montana Mercantile company powder warehouse west of town. The lock was broken and the robbery likely occurred between last Thursday evening and Monday morning. Police suspect local miners but see no link to other crimes.
Dillon's new Lutheran church at Pacific and Center streets will be formally dedicated on Sunday November 20 with services at 10 for Sunday school, 11 for festival sermons by Rev Amon C Johnson, and 3 for the dedication with Rev A M Skindler presiding.
A large crowd of American Legion auxiliary members gathered Friday at the Sugar Bowl cafe for their annual banquet honoring Mrs. H. J. Bostwick gold star mother. Mrs. J. W. Scott of Armstead and Miss Katherine MacGregor attended as guests.
Impressive ceremonies at the Hartwig theatre honor the fourteenth Armistice observance. Prof Robert E Albright spoke, Commander Louis Schmittroth presided, and high school band music was provided under L A Gregory. The program included prayers, solos by Bonnie Eakman, and reflections on peace and veteran sacrifice.
A busy PTA meeting featured children from multiple rooms presenting book covers and brief reviews. Isabel Ross opened with My Favorite Book, and mothers discussed outside reading, preferred illustrators, and access to top reading lists for primary and intermediate grades.
On October 31 Birch Creek P. T. A. gathered at the school for a short business session followed by a pupils’ Hallowe en program. Pinochle games closed the evening with Mrs N Allen high and Frank Mittlemeier low. Hostess Mrs Ashley Roberts provided lunch. earlier card party proceeds undecided.
Beatrice Bayers of the class of 1933 will captain the undefeated Beaverettes for a second year. She also serves as secretary of the association and is a member of the French club staff and student council. In class captain elections Beatrice Bertha and Jean Bayers were chosen for senior freshmen and junior classes respectively.
Dillon friends report Miss Marion Leach formerly of Dillon married Dr. Fred Tid wards of Oakland in Sans California on November 9. Mrs. Edwards daughter of Mr and Mrs Hurley Leach of Dillon, a former high school star and University of Montana graduate, has taught at the University of Oakland.
Miss Marie Reardon, a Normal college student, died in a Silverlake drowning when a car plunged into the water. Her sister Florence Reardon was summoned to Anaconda early Tuesday by Mrs. Metta Roland and her son William Aan Ay.
Montana Normal edged Billings Polytechnic 14 6 in a windy final game. Donner and Hodges scored for Poly early. Lehn fumbled a punt late, Booth recovered, and Kerr’s punt roll led to the Bulldog tally. Poly had 20 first downs for 331 yards to Normal 7 for 113.
Burles & Taylor operators of the Electric Shop bought the bankrupt Tattersall Variety stock. They plan a one week sale starting last Saturday and will move into the Edie building on South Idaho Street once remodeling is finished, combining the Electric Shop and Variety stock there.
Mrs W W Hawkins has been appointed chairman by the Montana Tuberculosis association to manage the Dillon Christmas Seal sale. The campaign runs from Thanksgiving to Christmas with penny seals aimed at broad community participation to fund health education and tuberculosis protection efforts.
The American Legion auxiliary plans a White Elephant sale December 2 and 3 at the building north of the First National Bank. It will feature trading jack knives sight unseen, a blind date style bargain, plus candy booths and a fish pond. Jake Neidt and son were in Wisdom earlier in the week.
Official count by county clerk Albert S. Baker reports 3,467 electors cast ballots from 4,003 registered, an 86.6 percent turnout the largest on record. Beaverhead may be first in state to complete counts. Dillon newspapers and central committees provided precinct totals as results came in. a large crowd gathered for authentic returns. A radio donated by Dillon Furniture aided broadcasting national results.
Dillon Rotary Club Monday evening featured a musical program chaired by Principal W. W. Wahl. The Dillon quartet with Mrs J G Jeppson Mrs W G Gilbert Dr W H Stephan and H D Jewett sang several numbers and were joined by violinist Bill Bates and pianist Ralph Meldden. Frank Venable of Butte guest spoke on Rotary inspiration and Miss Eakman led the assembly in a chorus. Mr and Mrs Harold Ek Martin visited Reichle in Dillon Sunday.
Book week runs November 13 to 19 with emphasis on books about America. The program ties the Washington bicentennial to a coming Century of Progress and invites every child to feel their community helped shape the nation.
