Rotary Governor Visits Dillon Club For Talk On International Good Will

Royal Mann district governor of Rotary with Missoula headquarters spoke at the Dillon club last Monday. He shared experiences from Rotary International conventions in Nice and visits to 11 countries and urged deeper understanding of Rotary aims. The meeting included a skit "Outkneeling ONeill" by Ruth Deputy and Arthur Christensen for the upcoming high school carnival.

Dillons Business and Profession Women Hold Social Meeting

Wednesday evening Dillon's B and P Women's group met at 6:45 with a 6:45 dinner at the Andrus hotel. Elizabeth Winn presided, Dora Smith chaired the program, and Lillian Stone reviewed Ownership Jitters from Independent Woman. Friday's handcraft class meets at 8 at Fern Schuler's home with Lillian Stone in charge.

Armstead 4-H Club Hosts Style Revue Winners

Armstead 4-H Club hosted a style revue as part of Girls 4-H Club Day in Beaverhead County. Mary Liggett of Dillon won third project in the style revue, Gertrude Knox of Dell won first in the second project year division, and several members received certificates and pins.

Spot Gibson Dies Suddenly at His Cabin Home in Kent

Pioneer resident Spot Gibson known for meeting trains in Beaverhead County died of natural causes in his bed at his Kent cabin last Saturday. Born July 11 1874 in Connecticut, he moved to Montana in 1892 and lived in Bannack. Funeral held Tuesday at Brundage chapel with Rev J A Meeke officiating. Burial in Bannack Cemetery.

Armistice Day Observed With Community Program in Dillon

Beav erhead Post of the American Legion plans Armistice Day activities on Thursday November 11 inviting the public. The high school band will start at 10 am with a concert in front of Hartwig theatre and two numbers inside, followed by a theatre program opening at 10 20 led by J C Wedum. The program includes invocation, group singing, address by Prof Rush Jordan, remarks by Joe Wedum, a minute of silence at 11, taps, and the national anthem. Schools will hold observances including a six member football game Dillon vs Granite County at 2 pm at the fairgrounds, the first use of six man football in the area. A veterans banquet at Andrus hotel ends the day with the Legion’s dugout in the hotel basement. no Armistice dance is scheduled.

Jacksons Celebrate Silver Anniversary in Dillon Park

Mr and Mrs James R Jackson observed their 25th wedding anniversary with a Sunday dinner for 95 guests at their home pavilion in Dillmont park. A T shaped table featured a cake and silver gifts. The couple, married in Dillon on November 4 1912, have lived here 21 years. Mrs Catherine Cashin of Dwin Bridges visited relatives in Dillon.

Labor unions agree to peace conference after tense telegram feud

In simultaneous state conventions A F of L and C I O clashed in a rapid exchange of insults before agreeing to a formal peace conference. Washington hosted a meeting featuring three A F of L members and ten C I O delegates. George Harrison of the Railway Clerks led the A F of L riders in the talks.

Circle Cafe Robbed Last Sunday Night

Robbers entered Circle cafe via rear air vent between noon and 6 o'clock and stole $80 in cash from two tills. Checks untouched. Entry and exit through a vent twelve feet off the ground. suspected help during escape. This follows another Dillon robbery a month earlier at the Steam Laundry with about $250 stolen. $25 reward offered.

Death Claims Beaverhead Historian

The Beaverhead county community mourns the death of Mrs. Laura Tolman Scott of Armstead at age 63 after two months of illness. A prominent local historian and DAR preservationist, she directed efforts to mark historic sites including Lewis and Clark’s route, served since 1914 on the state DAR preservation committee, and helped secure a government grant for 140 acres atop the Continental Divide. Funeral services are scheduled at Grace Methodist Church in Dillon Friday at 2 p.m.

Schools Note Week Devoted To Education

National Education Week was observed in Dillon from November 7 to 13 with a Grace Methodist rally. The program opened at 7:30 led by Rev J A Meeke, featuring songs by the State Normal College Men’s Glee Club, a talk by Rev H N Tragitt Jr on Education for Peace, and a closing America.
